MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH AFTER HOURS TELEPHONE SERVICE
The Matemal and Child Health After Hours Telephone Service is a statewide telephone service which offers information, advice, referral and counselling to families with children aged 0-6 years. The service is staffed by qualified and experienced Matemal and Child Health nurses, who understand how difficult and tiring parenting can be at times. The nurses are able to offer information on a wide range of topics, such as infant feeding, sleep problems, tantrums, matemal depression, women's health and medication queries. The service is anonymous and confidential. Occasionally, callers may be asked their name so that the nurse can contact someone, such as their local Maternal and Child Health nurse, to arrange further help. However, this is only done with the caller's consent. The nurses are also able to suggest other local resources that may be helpful for more ongoing support or assistance. The service is available between 6pm and midnight on weekdays, and between midday and midnight on weekends and public holidays. The phone number is 1800 134 883 for callers outside the Melbourne metropolitan area, (for the cost of a local call).
